Five natural oils for sun repair

Summer in Australia is synonymous with spending days surfing, swimming, or soaking up the sun and while our skin uses the sun to produce Vitamin D, which is important for our overall health, too much sun exposure can leave our skin dry and dull.

Byron Bay Skincare have put together a short list of natural ingredients, many of them native to the Northern Rivers, that do wonders for your skin. We wanted to share this list of naturally healing and environmentally friendly products. Originally posted on Byron Bay Skincare Blog.

Macadamia Oil

No matter what your age or skin type, oils are wonderful skin food. When you're young, your skin is nicely plump due to the abundance of naturally occurring oils. As we begin to get older our skin's ability to produce oil reduces and so too does the regularity of our cell turnover (cell turnover is fortnightly for babies, but after your teens, your skin will only renew itself once a month). That’s when Macadamia Oil steps in to give us a helping hand! With its extremely moisturising properties, Macadamia Oil is the perfect oil to keep your skin hydrated through all seasons as it works to replenish the skin's protective barrier against moisture loss. Not only is it great for keeping our skin hydrated, but Macadamia Oil also contains Omega 7, which diminishes as we age along with our skin's natural sebum. Try our Cream Cleanser enriched with Macadamia Oil for a creamy and nourishing clean that won't strip your skin.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil (pronounced ho-ho-ba) this luxurious natural oil deeply moisturises and hydrates all skin types, without leaving you looking greasy. It’s packed full of nutrients like Vitamin E and B, as well as antioxidants and minerals like copper and zinc, which all work to nourish and protect your skin. If you have sensitive skin this ones for you! Applying Jojoba Oil can help reduce flare-ups for eczema and psoriasis, and it's deep hydrating properties help soothe skin that may be impacted by early Spring sun exposure, or when windburn occurs during the change of seasons.

Lychee

If you haven’t tried Lychee, you’re missing out! It is a delicious pink fruit that contains so many health benefits. This yummy little snack contains high amounts of dietary fibre which proves to be one of the best nutrients to assist in cardiovascular health. It’s also packed full of important antioxidants including Vitamin C & Vitamin B….and as the day's lengthen, Lychee goes great in a cocktail. Not only is the fruit delicious, but the hard-serrated shell protecting it can be ground up, mixed with moisturiser, and used as an exfoliator to keep your skin fresh. No part of the Lychee gets left behind! Try our 2 in 1 Exfoliant and Mask combining Lychee and Jojoba Oil for an instantly smoother complexion.

Hempseed Oil

If you want to get a head start and prevent those fine lines, become friends with Hempseed Oil! This oil is packed full of anti-aging properties you need. Known for its deeply moisturising texture, Hempseed Oil improves the composition of fats in the outermost skin layer, improving the overall functioning of the skin. We have heard it all before but Hempseed really is that good, despite the hair and skin benefits, Hempseed also reduces cholesterol for a healthy heart. What are you waiting for? Hempseed - lather it on your face and sprinkle on your cereal!

Davidson Plum

If you love keeping it local, Davidson Plum is one of our own! Native to Northern New South Wales, it is loaded full of amazing phytonutrients like tartaric acid, gallic acid, flavone glycoside just to name a few. But really what you need to know is all these phytonutrients work together to promote skin elasticity & collagen leaving you with a glowing youthful complexion, perfectly PLUMped...Try our Hydrating Lotion with Davidson Plum and Hempseed Oil for an intensely hydrated complexion.
